Theatre History

Entertaining Guelph Since 1935

Guelph Little Theatre has presented outstanding amateur theatrical productions to
Guelph and surrounding communities for nearly 90 years. Starting with a simple play
reading group that met monthly, GLT’s first production, Yellow Sands, was staged in
November 1935 by an enthusiastic 300-member group who loved live theatre.
During the early years, GLT members mounted their productions in schools, church
basements and at many other locales in the city. In 1967, the group purchased and
moved into the former Salvation Army Citadel at 107 Dublin Street North.
Since 1996 GLT has called the theatre at 176 Morris Street home. Nearly 30 years later,
members still gather in the heart of “The Ward” to produce theatre for our community.
